It finally happened. Our 1st Rain FReep/Rally in Westminster! Since October 2007, we have managed to stay outside the window of rain. Well, not today. It rained steadily the entire time. [Mr] Trooprally came from Olney to join us. Wouldnt it figure that he missed the rain at Walter Reed and Olney but got soaked in Westminster. I think the rain really likes [Mr] T! Just as I helped Anomoly99 unfurl the flags, [Mr] T pointed out the rain was going to hit and also found a good spot under one of the shop canopies for My Hero (Chris) and me to stay dry. Chris was willing to stay under a tree, but that wouldnt have kept him dry too long. He wanted to be a trooper but why not stay dry with his Mom! I thought I had 2 umbrellas in Chris backpack but only had 1, so Anomoly99 went to the van to get another. I pulled out the red umbrella and although it matched our flags and patriotic signs, it was dilapidated and leaky! What a terrible hostess I was, giving [Mr] T an umbrella in that condition, which he reminded me about several times. He had a rain jacket on, but still got soaked. [Mr] T also had new tennis shoes that he needed to break in. Nothing like rain, to soften them up and break them in! Sorry, [Mr] T! None of us expected it to rain the entire time or else we would have brought our BIG umbrellas that were made for the kind of rain that Anomoly99 and [Mr] T stood out in. Yes, they were the Troopers of the day.
To our surprise, 1 moonbat arrived a little before 2pm. Another one showed up 10 minutes later. A guy showed up to join them but he wasnt a moonbat that we recognized. He was barely there for half an hour. There was another man that talked to them for 10 minutes or so but wasnt holding a sign. Near the end, [Mr] T came over to ask me if the moonbats had been lackadaisically holding their signs the way they were. After he mentioned it, I realized that they didnt start out that way. I guess they were so relaxed from the much needed showers; their stance took a back seat. They left a few minutes before their allotted time. Its a wonder the moonbats showed up at all, but I think they needed a good cleansing!
The supporters were few and far between, but the ones that came up to us made the rainy FReep worthwhile. There was one lady that had talked to [Mr] T and came down to introduce herself. She was willing to stand with us sometime and asked about signs. I told her we would have signs next time and took her name down. A man and his young son were getting out of their car and came over to us. The man held out some money as I told him we werent taking donations, we were just Supporting Our Troops. He thanked Chris and me and then told us he was a 20 year veteran. He had been in Bosnia and wanted to sign up again for Iraq, but he was too old. Another man walked by and thanked us for being there. I had seen him talking to [Mr] T and Anomoly99. Afterwards, Anomoly99 told me the man worked for the CIA. He had seen the moonbats out before we started our FReeps and they pi**ed him off. He was appreciative to see us Supporting Our Troops.

EVERY SATURDAY 1-3pm
Please join us if you can. We especially need extra boots on the corner, on the 2nd and last Saturday of each month, when we counter protest the moonbats. The Westminster Gathering/FReep is located on the east side of E. Main Street opposite the library at 50 East Main Street. There is public parking on Winters Street. Follow the signs.
Please ping. Thanks!
DC Chapter splash!
I drove to Westminster with the A/C on and drove home with the heater on. Jeez.
And you forgot to mention that the sun came out just as we were parting.
[Mr] T
HOLY BAT-WASH, BATMAN!
What a nice lot of pictures for such a rainy day.
Umbrellas seem to be always somewhere else when I need them too!
I heard you were getting new shoes, what a way to break them in.
See you soon.
Thanks 3D-JOY. [Mr] T was breaking in his new shoes as he was holding a broken umbrella! He was a good sport.
My first boss always said the rain is liquid sunshine as we picked up our survey equipment and dashed to the dryness of the van.
Looks like HOT HOT sunny weather this weekend. Be sure to bring a lot of liquid in a bottle.
[Mr] T
You'll have to stay with us and go to Westminster one Saturday. The cars actually stop for pedestrians in the cross walk. In fact, the local police make us stand away from the cross walk so that cars don't think we are crossing.
FYI - the timing of the lights at WR have been adjusted. They gave Crossers of Georgia Ave 35 seconds. No more running to get across in the old 17 seconds.
